I know, I know! Not another Howie story! But we don't have kids, so we don't have anything else to blog about!
Anyway, our little Howie is a great little dog. As you can see from my last post, he has no respect for me and thus will not listen when I give him a command. Despite the fact he doesn't respect me, he still loves me more than anyone in the world, so I can't really hold that against him. Who could, really? He's also super-friendly, mostly doesn't pee in the house any more, and mostly doesn't shed... until he goes to the vet.
Yesterday we took our little Howie-bazowie to the vet for one of his routine vaccinations and I was covered in his hair by the time we left. The poor little guy gets nervous the minute we walk in the door! He gets so excited to see the other dogs at the vet, but he is too stressed out by being at the vet to really make friends. It's pretty rough. And, it's also his own, darn fault!
Howie loved his first visit to the vet. He loved the girls at the front desk. He loved the other dogs. He loved the veterinary nurse. He loved Dr. Cortez!
He was super excited for his second visit to the vet, but this was the visit where he made the fatal mistake which has turned him into a vet fearer. He was too wiggly for the shots to go smoothly and as a result they had to stick him lots of extra times. Poor little guy.
On Howie's third visit to the vet he started the behavior that we see to this day at the vet. He doesn't like to leave our arms, in fact he snuggles up as close as he can get to us and tries to hide his little face in our armpits, thinking that maybe if he can't see what's coming, it won't come at all. He's so naieve. He starts to shed like crazy and he just shakes and shakes. It's truly pathetic. Yesterday, in his efforts to climb up me and get away from the vet, he gave the vet more of a show than I'm sure he wanted. Poor guy!
After all was said and done at yesterday's visit to the vet, we took Howie to a park and let him chase birds. We figured he deserved it for all the trauma we subjected him to at the vet. And they didn't even have to stick him yesterday! Next time it's going to take at least a can of special wet dog food to get back into his good graces I'm thinking!
